InTuning: The Process
I start by free-flowing with the different rhythms, translating them into colours, shapes and textures; this constitutes the background. Then, I take a photo of the band performing, making sure I capture the subtle communication that occurs between musicians while on stage. Once I'm happy with the photograph, I add it as a layer to the work. The last step is painting on top of the photograph to then merge it all with the background, always following the music's patterns. You can find a video of the process at the bottom of this page.
The story behind the word
inTuning is the name a friend and I came up with to describe the work I create with my tablet during live music performances. It combines my three top passions: music, painting and photography. Using an iPad and a drawing program called Procreate, I "tune into" the music and create a visual representation of what I'm hearing.
