InTuning: Painting Music, my signature work
InTuning is the name I came up with to describe my work at Live Performances, which combines my three biggest passions: photography, painting and music. Using an iPad and a drawing program called Procreate, I "tune into" the music, the audience and the atmosphere to "channel" all of it into unique images.
The process is quite peculiar. I start by free-flowing, channeling the music with its textures and colors; that constitutes the background. Then, I take a photo of the band performing, making sure I capture the subtle communication that occurs between musicians while on stage. Once I'm happy with the photograph, I add it as a layer to my work.
The last step is to merge the photograph to the background, usually tracing it while still channeling the rhythms and intention of the music. This is probably my biggest act of surrender...
