ABOUT THIS ARTWORK:
The creative process of this painting had many stages, it began in 2021 with the creation of a snake that was later on painted over with white. A year later, I revisited it; the body of the snake had so much visible texture it was impossible to ignore, it wanted to be.
After the death of Misha on January 3rd, 2025 -a 17 year old cat the Universe wanted me to care for when I moved to a new house in Caldetas- the pain I felt was deep and complex. I grabbed this painting to honor the life of this stray cat that found comfort in my lap for a few months before passing away. I painted the background violet, to transmute the intense feelings triggered by Misha's passing.
In Kabbalah, I see this artwork as a correlation to Binah, the third sefirah (Understanding) This dimension of the soul is the great cosmic matrix that receives the energy of Chokmah (second sefirah) and gives it form, structure and meaning. Like a many-headed serpent, Binah breaks down the abstract into multiple possibilities, allowing the formless to become intelligible and chaos to be organized into comprehensible patterns.
The serpent, an ancestral symbol of wisdom, unfolds here with multiple faces -forms that emerge and overlap, revealing the richness of possibilities that exist in the higher levels of the mind. Binah is not a single voice but a chorus of meanings, an intelligence that perceives from multiple angles and gives structure to all things.
You can turn the painting upside down and see a whole different thing, shifting perspectives as if thought itself was reorganizing its own forms. It also reveals new connections hidden in plain sight. Amid this transformation, geometric figures appear as the skeleton of reality, the internal logic that sustains the flow of creative energy.
The many-headed serpent is the metaphor for Binah: a knowledge that is never linear, that unfolds in multiple directions, that gives shape to what had none and transforms the formless into thought, structure and possibility.
